It is the job of a Development Executive and Development Producer to know how to spot a great script or book that can become a successful film or TV show. They nurture relationships with talent, including writers and directors. They shepherd projects from inception through development and into production, managing the creative process while keeping the business side on track. In this session, Easy Tiger’s Lizzie Cater will give participants insight into the role of a Development Executive and Development Producer, including how to manage multiple projects on the go and how she approaches the development of each of these projects. Lizze will give attendees an understanding of: |
- what a development slate is.
- how to expand their development slate and how to manage and prioritise projects.
- strategies for advancing projects through the various stages of development.
- what a development budget is and how to work with one.
In her role as Development Producer at Easy Tiger, Lizzie Cater works across a broad range of projects, including comedy series SICK TO DEATH created by Thomas Wilson-White, which she is co-producing under the banner of her production company Everyone We Know, alongside Rhapsody Films. In addition to her in-house slate, Lizzie is developing the comedy series Shade, created and written by Gemma Bird Matheson and produced with Ratidzo Mambo, and debut feature film Melaleuca by Jessica Barclay Lawton, based on the short film Zef which has reached over 1.7 million views and participated in the TIFF Filmmakers Lab 2021.
Previously, Lizzie produced Thomas Wilson-White’s feature The Greenhouse under the banner of their independent production company Everyone We Know. Her short films include St.
Augustine, which premiered in Official Competition at Melbourne International Film Festival; and Birdie, written and directed by Shelly Lauman, which premiered Internationally at Toronto International Film Festival, and was one of the first short-form projects acquired by Fox Searchlight. In 2022 Lizzie was one of two practitioners selected for Screen NSW’s Emerging Producer Placement and was recently one of three international emerging story editors selected to participate in the 2025 TorinoFilmLab SeriesLab stream.
