The Australian Writers' Guild has a number of membership levels for stage, screen, audio and interactive writers. Full members are writers who have produced work and are entitled to the full range of services provided by the AWG. Emerging writers without the required amount of produced work can apply for Associate membership, and can make use of a number of our services and networking opportunities, as well as applying for many of the initiatives we run throughout the year. We also have student, senior and overseas membership.

Full Membership
To qualify for full membership you must have had your screen, stage, audio or interactive writing produced.
For film, theatre and audio you must have at least 50 minutes of produced work. Television writers must have 45 minutes. For anyEmerging Writers' Awards other form of performance writing, please contact [email protected] for more information.

Associate Membership
Associate Membership is available for un-produced writers or writers with produced work beneath the minimum for full membership.
This level of membership is perfect for emerging writers looking for support and craft development opportunities and the chance to network with other writers and members of the industry. Associate membership of the AWG is a fantastic way of becoming part of the writing community while you’re looking for your big break.
Some of the benefits of AWG Associate Membership include:
- Industrial advice (6 hours per annum with additional advice charged at a rate of $165/hr),
- Access to agreements, rates and other industrial documents,
- Standard agreements include: options, co-writing & employment contracts,
- Eligibility for writing competitions, prizes and initiatives, including the annual Emerging Writers' Awards,
- Invitations to a wide range of industry events, as well as committee-organised events in most states (monthly in Sydney and Melbourne),
- Access to writing and professional resources,

Student Membership
To qualify for student membership you must be able to provide proof of enrolment in a full time course.

Annual Student Membership: $85 (GST inclusive)
The one-off joining fee is waived for Student Members.
Once you have completed your online membership registration, you will be prompted to upload your student ID. Your enrolment will not be valid until we have received a copy of your student card or proof of enrolment, and activated your membership.
