Events

The AWG’s greatest strength lies in our membership, which is rich in knowledge and energy and brings together writers across all levels of expertise. We are able to draw on this knowledge and energy to deliver a strong and diverse calendar of events for our members, including our regular members nights held across the country.

These members’ events are organised by the various State Committees and feature guest speakers from a range of disciplines speaking on diverse topics. These events have enhanced the evolution of writing groups, strengthened consultation with funding bodies and generally enriched the writing community.

The AWG’s program of writers’ events aims to inspire creative screenwriting and present stories and information on how success can be achieved. They provide a space for writers to meet and an informal forum for discussion, building and invigorating the screenwriting community.

AWG Sponsorship

The Australian Writers’ Guild is proud to sponsor events, festivals, awards and programs that recognise, promote, reward and celebrate the work of screen and stage writers. We are also the proud sponsor of Best Screenplay Awards for a number of festivals and competitions.

We show our support for the events we sponsor through:

  • Pre-event promotion of the event in our eNewsletter, distributed to approx. 9000 recipients
  • Pre-event promotion of the event via an AWG social media post: 10,000 followers over three platforms
  • Post-event coverage, via an article in our eNewsletter, including photos
  • 1 x Electronic Direct Mail (EDM) to a subset of our members where applicable (eg, State-based members, student members)

For Best Screenplay Awards that we sponsor, we:

  • Donate a 12-month AWG membership to the winner of the award
  • The winner is eligible to be considered for our Pathways Program
  • An AWG Full Member will present the award at the event when possible
  • Provide a certificate and congratulatory letter for the winner of the award

What we expect from the events we sponsor:

  • The AWG logo to be featured in all marketing collateral and promotional material for the event, festival, award or program
  • Signage acknowledgement, including logo placement, of AWG’s sponsorship at the event, festival, awards or program
  • 1 x Electronic Direct Mail (EDM) to the organiser’s mailing list of stakeholders, invitees or participants, promoting the work of the AWG (content supplied by AWG)
  • Social media coverage of AWG’s sponsorship on the organiser’s social media platforms
  • All terms and conditions for participation in the event must reflect AWG’s minimum standards
  • All terms and conditions for entry into any competition run as part of the event must reflect AWG’s minimum standards
  • Two free tickets to the event for AWG members or an AWG member discount for tickets to the event, where applicable
  • That at least one writer is on the Award’s judging panel
  • That where possible writers are fairly compensated for their time and expertise in judging or contributing to the event, festival, awards or program
  • The opportunity for an AWG member to present the award if an AWG is sponsoring an award.

To ensure we are able to process your request, sponsorships should be applied for a minimum of 6 weeks before the event date.
