Victorian Screenwriter Meegan May wins coveted RMIT’s McCraith House Writer’s Residency

19 December, 2018

The Australian Writers’ Guild in partnership with RMIT and Film Victoria are delighted to announce that screenwriter Meegan May and her project The Analyst have been selected as the winner of the two-week McCraith House residency and mentorship opportunity.

May’s project The Analyst tells the story of Lucy Groves, a former intelligence analyst who sees a man on the street she believes is a wanted terrorist. She recruits team of ex-military and civilian friends and colleagues as she tries to prove the man’s identity and prevent a deadly terror attack.

The project was inspired by Meegan’s personal history as a military intelligence analyst and was originally conceived in a Film Victoria supported one on one with US showrunner Simon Mirren.

May will spend two weeks working on the project at RMIT’s McCraith House on the Mornington Peninsula, a unique and iconic modernist beach house that has hosted writers’ residencies through RMIT’s non/fiction Lab since 2013. She will also have the opportunity to meet with script assessor and mentor Karin Altmann throughout the residency.

‘The McCraith House residency is an incredibly exciting opportunity will allow me to focus in on completing the second draft of the script and get the project to a great stage, especially through working with someone world class like Karin Altmann’, May says.

May was selected as the ‘clear winner’ from a shortlist of entries from Victorian screenwriters on the AWG’s Pathways Program.

The two-week McCraith House Residency for Pathways writers is made possible with support from RMIT and Film Victoria. For more information on the AWG Pathways Program, please visit the AWG website here

The Analyst will now join over 100 outstanding unproduced projects from some of Australia’s most talented screenwriters on the Pathways Showcase.
