The Australian Writers’ Guild congratulates founding member and Oscar nominee Ken Shadie for his Order of Australian Medal in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.The man who helped put Crocodile Dundee’s “That’s not a knife” in the lexicon of world-famous screen moments received his OAM for service to the film and television industries as a writer and to veterans.

Among Ken’s best-known contributions to Australia’s film and television industry have been: Co-writer on the movie 'Crocodile Dundee' (1986); Chief Writer on ‘The Paul Hogan Show' (1978-1985); Script Writer on 'Number 96' (1974-1978) and Chief Writer/Script Editor on 'The Mavis Bramston Show' (1964-1968). He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for 'Crocodile Dundee'.

As well as being a member of the AWG and a voting member of the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Ken is heavily involved in community affairs, as the President of the Brooklyn RSL Sub-Branch, Vice President of the Northern Metropolitan District Council of the RSL and a member of the National Servicemen's Association.
