Welcome

Hello and welcome once again!

How lovely it is to see you again. Seems like only yesterday we were all together gazing over the ocean in San Remo for the 2011 NSC – 'Just Shoot Me: Getting the Script On The Screen' -  for what was the most raved about Screenwriters’ conference to date. We laughed, we cried, and we were tremendously inspired by our wonderful guests and delegates.

This year we return to beautiful Victoria and the coast once again – this time to the southernmost tip of the the world renowned Mornington Peninsula. It’s here that the historic Cape Schanck Lighthouse sits proudly on the rocky headland, guiding ships through one of the world’s most dangerous stretches of water and into safe harbour; and where we’ll guide you through two and a half days of conversation, inspiration and celebration of the craft of writing for the screen. Steeped in history and coastal beauty – with enough winery action to keep us drinking and chatting until the wee small hours -  it’s all sun, surf and salty air as we meet with, and hear from, some of the biggest local and international names in the business of screenwriting once again.

Our cast and crew have spent long hours bringing you a jam packed programme of craft sessions, conversations, case studies, mentorships and opportunities to meet with broadcasters, producers and funding bodies. Not only that, but we have kept up (and improved upon) the tradition of social events – from the not so trivial Trivia night, to the Gala dinner… from drinks round the pool to singing with the band…literally! We’ve run the gamut from kitsch to classy, there’s something for every taste.

We know your days and night will be chock-a-block with conversation and stimulation -  but don’t forget your swimming costumes, or even your tennis racquets or golf clubs (yes – one of the most spectacular coastal golf courses in the country is right at your doorstep), as there’s plenty to do on site. Massage anyone? Or perhaps just dangling your feet in the pool on a warm summer's night, watching the sun go down with a glass of local pinot in hand is more your cup of tea? Whatever your preference, be prepared to sleep little, and talk a lot with like minded friends and colleagues, and celebrate the best of screenwriting from around the world as we unwrap this year’s incredible lineup of talent from screens large and small (and even very, very small).

The NSC is about creating opportunities and industry links, sharing knowledge and experience, and learning from the most talented and experienced of our peers, both local and international. We’re immensely gratified that the National Screenwriters Conference has retained its position as one of the industry’s premier events, and a highlight of the professional calendar, and we’re excited to have Film Victoria as our Principal Partner in the NSC once more.

We’re all thrilled to bring you the 2013 NSC, and look forward to seeing you all by the lighthouse.

Kelly Lefever

Chair, National Screenwriters Conference
