The Art of Comedy Writing with Adam Zwar and Amanda Brotchie
This month the Australian Writers’ Guild Vic Branch invites you to an evening with Adam Zwar and Amanda Brotchie, co-creators and writers of the hit ABC comedy series Lowdown, currently screening on Wednesday evenings at 9 pm. Lowdown is an 8 part comedy series about a shameless showbiz journalist, played by Zwar.
Adam is also the creator of the hit SBS series Wilfred, in which he also co-starred, with collaborator Jason Gann. Adam won an AFI Award for his performance in Wilfred, which went into a second series with SBS and is now heading to the US, where a pilot will be produced for the FX Network. Adam and Jason also scored an AWGIE nomination for Wilfred in 2008 in the Comedy – Situation or Narrative category. Wilfred is about a dog played by Jason Gann, described as 'part Labrador and part Russell Crowe on a bender.'
Zwar and Gann also co-wrote the feature Rats and Cats, which premiered at the 2006 Melbourne International Film Fesival, and was directed by Tony Rogers.
Amanda Brotchie co-wrote the Lowdown series as well as directing all eight episodes, and functioning as one of of the executive producers, along with Andrew Knight, Debbie Lee and Zwar. Previously, Amanda directed the short film Break and Enter, which won an AFI Award for Best Film. Break and Enter was written by Trudy Hellier and produced by Melanie Coombs.
