NO CREDIT WHERE IT’S DUE
Last week Network Ten announced a new credit policy for all their commissioned programs that requires all production partners to exclude crew details from the show’s end credits and display them instead on the Network Ten website.
Ten’s explanation for introducing the policy is to “maximise accelerated audience flow” that is to get viewers from one show to the next quickly. As displaying credits is a contractual requirement for producers on most programs this move will either force breach of contract actions or force the credits into the main body of the program. Already some shows credits are being run minimized and accelerated under promotions for other programming or over the final scenes of programs.
End credits are important recognition for hard working production crews and the AWG strongly opposes any attempt to remove them from programs. The Guild will be monitoring this situation closely and will work with our industry colleagues in opposing the widespread introduction of this policy.
