The shortlist for the 2008 Kit Denton Fellowship has been announced. The projects of this year’s finalists investigate our very essence - from poignant stories of racism and loss to narratives which question our constructs of punishment, religion and morality.

AWG Welcomes the Inclusion of Screen Practitioners to the Screen Australia Board

Federal Arts Minister Peter Garrett announced on Friday 20 June the appointments to the first board of the new film agency, Screen Australia. As a leading advocate for the inclusion of practitioners on the board of the new industry body we welcome the appointment of members such as screenwriter and director Robert Connolly.
No Credit Where It's Due

Last week Network Ten announced a new credit policy for all their commissioned programs that requires all production partners to exclude crew details from the show’s end credits. The Guild will be monitoring closely and will work with our industry colleagues in opposing the widespread introduction of this policy.
Richard Lane Receives Order of Australia

Richard Lane, former President of the Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG), has been posthumously awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
New Serials and Series Agreement

The new Series and Serials Agreement between AWG and SPAA, that came into effect January 1 2008, is now available through the National Office. The new SASA includes a 31% increase in the Minimum Basic Use Fee, the protection of collecting society rights for writers and industry best practice audit provisions.
Thanks to the SASA negotiating committee - Tim Pye, Chris Hawkshaw, Rick Kalowski and Chris Lee - on achieving this great outcome for writers.
