'No Compromise on Free Speech' Media Release

The AWG are among the members of the arts and media industries who have recently supported a press release criticizing federal Attorney General Phillip Ruddock's rejection of the Australian Law Reform Commission's recommendation to drop the term 'sedition' and make significant changes to the sedition provisions of the Anti-Terror legislation passed by parliament in late 2005. Campaign for Media Diversity

The Campaign for Australian Media Diversity (CAMD) is a loose group of organisations and individuals that includes the Australian Writers’ Guild, Australian Society of Authors, Choice (formerly the Australian Consumers’ Association), Communications Law Centre, Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia, Free Speech Victoria, Friends of the ABC (Vic), Liberty Victoria and Media Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA).
CAMD believe Australian democracy and culture depend upon diverse media ownership and healthy independent public broadcasting. Any government reform of Australia’s media ownership laws should achieve greater diversity of media ownership in Australia.

AWG QLD PFTC REVIEW SUBMISSION

Interested individuals and organisations were invited to submit responses to the current review of the PFTC by Friday 8 September 2006. AWG Queensland and ASDA Queensland submitted two responses and these documents are now available to download from here.

NSW Draft State Plan AWG Submission

The draft NSW State Plan has been launched however it does not acknowledge the important role played by the creative industries in the economic and social life of the state.
In response to the government's invitation for contributions from individuals and organisations on the final State Plan (to be released in October, 2006) the AWG has submitted a response which can be downloaded from here.
