Full Membership
Open to any qualified professional writer, whether an employee or freelance, who seeks admission, satisfies the requirements in the areas listed below and maintains financial membership of the AWG.

• Television: 
  As a dramatist, documentary or narrative writer who has created not less than fifty minutes of material which has been produced by a recognised production company.
• Theatre:
  As a dramatist for theatre who has had a play or other script of not less than fifty minutes duration produced by a recognised production company or authority
• Film:
  As a dramatist, documentary or narrative writer who has created not less than fifty minutes of material which has been produced by a recognised production company or authority.
• Comedy:
  As an author of sketches and routines totalling thirty minutes duration produced by professional performers broadcasters or management.
• Music Lyricist:
  As an author of lyrics, songs and/or music totalling ten minutes duration, which has been produced by publishers, producers, performers or management or who have commenced salaried employment.
• Script Editors:
  As a script editor who has edited one hundred and fifty minutes of material for broadcasting or a film for presentation through any other medium
• Translator:
  As a translator who has translated one hundred and fifty minutes of material for broadcasting or a film for presentation through any medium
• Other: 
  Any other person who in the opinion of the National Council is of a professional standing entitling him or her to membership.

Associate Membership
Open to any person in sympathy with the aims and objectives of the AWG, who, though not at present qualifying for full membership, is working to achieve professional status.

Student Membership
Open to full time students engaged in a professional writing course and on presentation of a current student card only.

 Joining fee $165 ($150 PLUS $15 GST) in addition to the annual fee as set out below
