SUZIE MILLER RECEIVES $25,000 KIT DENTON FELLOWSHIP

The $25,000 Kit Denton Fellowship for performance writers of courage and excellence went to playwright and former human rights lawyer Suzie Miller for her project Truth which explores the story of a 10-year-old child killer.

The Fellowship was set up in 2007 in memory of Kit Denton, scriptwriter, author, poet and lyricist, and father of Andrew Denton, whose most famous work was the international best-selling novel The Breaker. The Kit Denton Fellowship allows the selected writer to develop their proposed project into a marketable script.

Suzie's project explores the most misunderstood criminal of all – the child killer. Her work questions the nature of evil, punishment and the role of the justice system. She was selected from a shortlist of some of Australia's top performance writers including Margaret Cameron, Darlene Johnson, Kevin Lucas, Kate Mulvany, Sue Smith and Alana Valentine.

Suzie is a graduate of the Playwrights Studio of the National Institute Dramatic Studio (2000), has a Masters degree in Theatre (UNSW), and a Masters degree in Law (UNSW). Her works include Cross Sections, SOLD and All the Blood and All the Water. Her play Reasonable Doubt is currently being staged as part of the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe.

The Kit Denton Fellowship is supported by Zapruder's Other Films, Animal Logic, FremantleMedia Australia, Kennedy Miller Mitchell, GNWTV and TressCox Lawyers.
